CHAMPIONS !
Congratulations to our Under 15 team who won the Lexus Midlands/North West Regional Tournament at Derby Rugby Club on Sunday 25th September.
The four Mark’s (under 15’s coaches) and the lads will now represent the Midlands/North West at the National Competition which will take place at Old Albanians Rugby Club, St Albans on April 7th.
The first XV have had an excellent start to the season despite last Sunday’s unfortunate defeat to Leek and it looks as though they are in for a good season.
Both the 2nd and 3rd XV’s have also had good starts to the season and the Colts still sit proudly at the top of Lancashire & Cheshire Colts League - Senior C with a 100% record.
Our Ladies too have started the season with a 100% record and have scored over 100 points in their first two games to take them to the top of Midlands 2.
60th Anniversary
Many of you may not be aware but next year Newcastle Rugby Club is 60 years old.
It was in the November of 1947 that Newcastle (Staffs) Rugby Club was inaugurated with guidance and the financial help of Stoke Rugby Club. (It was another 5 years before we became independent of Stoke).
To mark the occasion a number of events will be held next year starting with a Fun Day on Sunday February 25th where we shall be making a world record attempt !
It is planned to have bouncy castles, rugby challenges, a barbeque (weather permitting) and other stalls.
The world record attempt is the number of consecutive passes of a rugby ball, which currently stands at 262 and is held by Wooden Spoon and the Scottish RFU.
There are some stipulations such as each pass must regulation and at least 5 metres and a person can only pass the ball once (so we will need lots of people on the day).
I’ve attached the guidance from the Guinness Book Of Records to the back of this newsletter.
More information will be given when an organising committee is formed.
Cheshire Slimmers
From Wednesday 18th October a slimming club will be held at the clubhouse in conjunction with Cheshire Slimmers.
Meetings will start at 7pm and it costs £9.50 to join and £4.20 at each weigh in.
Halloween Spooktacular
On Sunday 5th November there will be ghostly goings on down at Lilleshall Road.
Young children and their parents will turn into vampires, witches and pumpkins and dance to the haunting sounds of a disco.
Some will try to eat doughnuts hanging from the ceiling or break open the piñata.
There will feast on devilish offerings and all for the miserly sum of 5 pounds.
Ask at the kitchen on Sundays for more information.
Christmas Hamper
We are looking for donations of bottles (preferably alcoholic) and food to put together two hampers for Christmas.
These hampers will then be raffled to raise funds for the club.
We aim to make the draw on Friday 22nd December and ‘guarantee’ the winners will receive their prize before Christmas.
Donations can be given to the Bar Staff or the Sunday Kitchen girls.
As soon as we have two decent hampers we can start to sell tickets but donations can continue after this.
